SHARON - Mom to Kharma, Hooper
I am the Founder and "Proud Pack Leader" of Legacy Boxer Rescue. Legacy was an idea born of my desire to help boxers in need and the encouragement I got from three very determined volunteers, Vasha, Lori and Brandi.
In June 2002 I bought my pup Hammer from a BYB (backyard breeder). I had no idea what a BYB was at that time, but I learned fast when I researched rescue to get Hammer a friend. I had no idea so many boxers were homeless and in need of help. We adopted Ginger in October of 2002 and started volunteering with the local rescue. We "failed" at fostering on our 4th foster dog, and Booker became a member of our family in July 2003.
Legacy Boxer Rescue was a reality in March 2004, and the rest, shall we say, is history. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the sparkle creep back into a boxer's eyes after suffering so much sadness at the hands of humans. The name Legacy was chosen because a boxer's future should never be uncertain.
I am often asked why do I do rescue, isn't it sad and heart breaking? They ask me why I spend virtually every spare moment running this rescue. I simply reply with "how can I not?". I cannot bear the thought of Hammer, or others like him, being alone and scared in a shelter, much less perishing in that same shelter only because they weren't wanted any longer. What we do at LBR, and how far we have come in just 7 years, is just short of amazing. We have saved over 1,700 boxers during that time, and I am thankful that we have the ability to do so much to change the lives of the boxers that enter our program. I love what I do, and LBR has the most awesome volunteers on Earth. I am thankful every day for each and every one of them.
